Chicken In Hiding and Penny Eggs!

Yesterday, while working in the yard, I was nearly attacked by a Silkie Bantam!

After rooting around the back end of my compost, I discovered my Silkie had moved out of the pen and had taken herself a deluxe one-nest apartment next to an all-you-can-eat buffet (also known as the compost pile).

Now, I had been wondering why my Silkie Bantam had stopped producing eggs. The little sneak wanted to hatch a brood! All in all, we found ten eggs. I chose my son to kick her off to bring in the eggs.

This morning, on the way to the coop to let the ladies out, my Malaysian Serama was just a-hollerin'. For being pint-sized, she sure does have a howl. She's the second loudest in my flock (the loudest being my Brahma Hen). She was so proud of herself, for she had laid her first egg ever! It's slightly larger than a penny, and I can't wait to do some Pysanky artwork on it. I wonder how many calories, maybe five? Haha!

Oooh, congrats to the little girl! My little Violet lays the same size . . . I use them for brushing onto the top of my breads (it always seems a waste to break a regular egg for that).

LOL about that sneaky little one . . . ran away from home just to set up her own housekeeping, did she?!

Hey Missy, thanks for stopping by. I have chickens too. 8 hens and 1 rooster. I want to get some more hens in a few weeks. My girls eggs are in high demand here. They cant lay them fast enough.
And I also have a button collection. I'll have to do a post on mine.

We had a bantam that was laying like that, but she was only 4-5 months old. We gave her away, though. We had a splash sikie hen, but she died not too long ago. She only had one eye...lost it to merek's says the guy we got her from. I think she ended up with infection. Got one silkie hen and four roosters now. All white except one blue rooster. Not sure what to do with them.

welcome to Year of Enchantment!! I just got an email letting the group know you joined us! I had to come and check out your blog!! I love your work.. we have a lot of similar interests - I love sublime and have lots of their patterns (although I haven't touched an embroidery needle lately due to my obsession with crochet).. I also want some chickens really, REALLY badly.. I finally got my hubs to let me get a couple pygmy goats.. now I need chickens!!

Your chickens and eggs are pretty. I think it would be so cool to have chickens, but living in the city, I don't think they are allowed. Our yard isn't big enough, either.
