Licking Rocks!

I am a rock hound. This past weekend we were at the family cabin, spending time with our kids, hiking and playing in Bear Lake. Saturday afternoon, while everyone was napping (except me of course), I was off hunting arrow heads on the family property. When I pick up a rock and can't decide what type of stone it is I lick it...I know, pretty gross, but it totally pays off. I would have left the tan pointy rock right there in the dirt if I had not been a licker!!! I found a beautiful tip of a arrowhead. It is probably Shoshone Indian.

*If you are interested in collecting Native American artifacts THIS  website will give you the rules and explain when it is legal to collect.*

How fortunate to find an arrowhead tip on your hunt! I usually find goodies when I just happen to look down. I love rocks, not necessarily arrowheads, I am more into fossils. (But I have never found an arrowhead, who knows how bonkers I would get?)

Once again, licking leads to good things.

Wow! How cool is that. I love rocks too. I used to collect them when I was a kid and keep them in jars of water so I could admire the colors. Very glad you found the arrow head.

We spit on the rocks. Then rub the spit around....I know gross to some people. Great link! :0)

How cool it that! I never would have thought to lick them though.
We have a park near here that has fairy stones. You can read about it here. It's pretty cool.

"Everyone to their own taste."

I hopped over here from...don't remember, hopping too much.

Very interested in the church/garage in a couple of posts earlier. That building is small, but look at the detail in it. Those windows - how deep they are recessed. Do you have any idea what the history is?

What a great find! My hubby loves rocks....we once owned an old gold mining claim in Colorado and we found so many interesting rocks. But no gold!!

You are so clever to do that. My husband has told me stories from his childhood of going to the family homestead in North Dakota, and finding arrowheads on the land. thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.

My dad and I were rockhounds when I was a kid...Where I grew up on the Oregon coast along the riverbeds we would find all kinds of indian artifacts...I even found a stone mortar and pestle once....it is in the Astoria Oregon museum....I love to look for things...shells, rocks, chickens....just kidding.

Very cool! My daughter loves rocks though I don't think she has licked them yet. I'm not sure if I should share that tip or not. He, he!
