Eating Pine Cones and Blue Glass Water...

I needed to get the new grapes and potatoes in the ground yesterday, so my little nephew and I bundled up went out into the cold wind. I sat him between the spinach, lettuce and radishes and went about planting the grapes. He loved being outside in the dirt, and was babbling as loud as he could. He ate a pine cone. The sap made his little thumb stick to his pointer finger and he keep looking at it with awe. I ended up using Goo-Gone to get the sap off.
Later that day my niece and I set out to make a mermaid garden. This month over at Yarnigras Swapper Spot the challenge is mermaids. I have to admit before this I had not even given mermaids a second thought, but now I love them!!! I had so much fun making the ornament, my kitchen table looked like a paper explosion for a good 3 days. I love the way the mermaid garden turned out and decided to use my polished blue glass instead of water. I have a pond and a couple of birdbaths already so this was a bit easier for me. I can't wait to see what is planned for next month!!

I LOVE your mermaid garden. What a wonderfully whimsical idea!

That picture of your nephew in the garden is just too cute. It looks like he grew right there, like a cabbage.

I mowed the grass Sunday morning with shorts and no shirt. I was sweating like crazy. Then I went swimming in our new pool Sunday evening. Trying to make you jealous. Mike said we'd make some salsa this weekend to send. Aren't you the one who said you wanted to trade jars? I hope so. Sometimes it's hard to keep up with everyone. I try to read and comment on all the blogs in my sidebar. Most of it I remember, but I do get confused from time to time.

Pine cones are good roughage. Coming soon to a diaper near you! If his Mom asks any awkward questions, play dumb.

What a lovely idea and so pretty. I would love to try out the idea, but it would get covered up by all the leaves. Maybe I could make one in the greenhouse?

Hi Missy,
I am glad I clicked on the photo of your nephew to see it larger. I didn't see the chicken or pea plants in the smaller photo. That is an awesome photo! I had to laugh, picturing him opening and closing his thumb and finger. I'm assuming the pine cone didn't make him sick.

Your blue glass water and mermaids are pretty.
