Fresh snow and Lupine seeds.

6:00 A.M.
This morning I awoke to a beautiful snow storm. We had to venture out early so the coffee pot was hot and ready. As I pulled on my sweats, braided my hair and put on my eyes (glasses) and headed out to the chickens. The snow was twirling and had a nice cold pin prick bite to it. I brought the ladies fresh water and they yelled at me for disturbing their perched sleep. I am feeding them 18% protein with a little scratch and shell mixed in and even brought them out a couple of oranges I had ready. I doubt any of them will venture out unless the snow stops.
6:00 P.M.
The snow stopped and my son shoveled. He said it was all water and very heavy. The girls did venture out of the hen house and pen and found their to the frozen pond and the big pines. They stayed out all afternoon shifting their weight from one leg to another. I watched them eat snow and peck at the dog. The sun came up and it was so bright, it actually hurt my eyes. It has been a long time since the sun has been out. I started some seeds today. I planted a flat of Lupines, my very favorite flower. I have had the seeds soaking for about a day and a half because last year I just nicked the seeds and I didn't get a lot of plants. I hope this year I will get a better yield. Now for dinner, a long soak and a good book!

Poor chicklets! I'm so glad we haven't had any snow yet! Winter isn't over yet so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Are you reading anything good? I'm always looking for a new author.

I am an eclectic reader and this month it has been Zombies and Vampires etc. I just finished The forest of Hands of Feet by Carrie Ryan, The Society of S, Year of Disappearances by Susan Hubbard and a great little 3 book series ghost story/love story and mystery by Nora Roberts the first one was called Blue Dahlia.(Loved Them!) Some of the books my 16 year old daughter had me read. I read everything. Authors I enjoy are Isabel Allende, Sarah Dunant, Patterson and anything from David Sedaris. Any authors you recommend?

At this point you can keep the snow. I don't want it anymore. I'll be in Florida for the weekend, and it's supposed to be 75 degrees when I arrive at lunch time Friday.
