My mom is a corn thief, grandma's wedding dress and a groping in Idaho!

My mom, my two sisters and I drove to Rupert, Idaho. It is a pilgrimage we make every year. We park our car on F street, then like crazy stalkers, we walk around the little block my mother grew up on. We go down the alley so we can peak in her old back yard, we look at the bomb shelter her dad made, and the wood shop where he made his beautiful grandfather clocks. My mother told us about the summer she kept sneaking over a neighbor's fence to steal his corn. She was almost always too fast to be caught, but one evening as she was in the process of taking more corn the farmer came out with a gun. As she climbed over the top of the fence he was shooting at the ground next to her. She never took corn again. My mother the corn thief, who knew!
This is my baby sister wearing my grandmother's wedding dress. My sister is a petite size 5 and the dress is a little tight. The dress is being kept safe by our Aunt Frances. While we stayed the night with her she gave us all some treasures from our great grandma Bailey.

This is my Great Grandmother Ida Bailey Culley and my Great Grandfather Franklin Culley. She had very long hair. My aunt Frances said they knew when they were going somewhere nice because grandma would have the girls help wash her hair. When standing up it went to the ground. She wore it up in a tight bun her entire life.

This is one of her her clips. Aunt Frances gave this one to me and one to each of my sisters. I wore it home. She also gave me a dress she wore in the 1950's. I love it and it is the perfect fit!

This is going to be my new shirt when I venture out to yard sales from now on. We were at an estate sale on the outskirts of Rupert when a man and his young son went right up to my little sister to touch her tattoos. He was asking about them, etc. At that point I went down stairs, and when I turned around he was standing behind me. He grabbed both my arms/shoulders and asked where were all of my pretty tattoos while his thumbs moved up and down my arms!!!! I coolly looked at him, straight into his eyes and while I removed his right hand from my person I said "My tattoos are where only my HUSBAND can see them." He dropped his other hand and backed away quickly. So gross! The worst part was he had a 5 year old boy with him. Nasty creepy man!! So I was groped in Idaho!

What a disgusting creep.

On a more happier note,

The wedding dress is classy!

Sounds like a fun trip, minus the groping part, that is. EW! Corn thief, huh? Cute story! Your Grandmother was a little woman, to be sure! Pretty dress! I imagine your Great Grandmother had a lot of headaches! Beautiful comb, is it silver? Or??? I can't really tell, nice memento! I remember the dresses of the 50s, my Mom used to always wear a dress and got "dolled up" before my Dad got home from work. (Until he sold her sweet house, then she never did that anymore)

I love that your mom is a corn thief and your sister in your grandma's wedding dress, but Gropers make me SICK. Yucko. So sorry you had that experience. I'm kind of surprised the guy still has his hands attached to his arms!

I love that dress! People were so teeny tiny in the past. Beautiful hair clip -- I love the idea of her long, long hair.

Creepy guy should have gotten one right in the chops!

Family history can be so fun! Your Grandmother was very pretty...and such long hair! WOW! And how great that her dress has survived all these years.

Never know who one will encounter at a yard sale....

Eeewww...a groping. Bleah! I went to our local rock club meeting for the first time (it made me think of you, you're now the 4th person I know that likes rocks)...lots of old men, lots of comments on bringing such wonderful children AND one man saying he'd never seen anyone breastfeed like that before (meaning using a nursing cover). It normally wouldn't have bothered me, but his whisper was not a whisper and half the eyes ended up on me while nursing. THANKS old man! I'm excited for the rock club though! AND the field trips! :)
