We drove our son to his first job. He will be gone the entire summer! I won't miss the food bill being painful to look at or the sound of the X BOX blaring in the background, or dirty sweaty socks. But I do miss the part of him that has been slipping away from me this past year. The hours of playing and building with Lego's has stopped, he does not ask me to help fix his hair anymore and I, along with grandmas and his big sister, are no longer the only females that call his cell phone. His feet have grown 3 sizes this year and he is now a hair taller than me. He shaves. I have been watching him the past year change and grow both physically, emotionally and mentally. It has been fascinating to see his tastes change, to see what kind of girls he likes, and to become a leader in his Scout program. I do believe he will be a hard worker and a wonderful father some day.
He looks very different to me in this picture even though it was taken on Sunday. He cut off all of his long hair the day before and I had no idea he even had eyebrows or ears!!!
The following pictures we just took along our drive home.

Oh poor you! I know what your feeling as I'm kinda going through the same thing. We want them to grow up and venture out but not really, but yeah we do, but not now.
The greatest invention....the cell phone.

oh it is so hard when they grow up! my son is now 22 and I have been missing him as a wee one.
Good looking guy! The First Job is a big thing! He'll always remember it!
Oh! How are you doing? I can't believe your boy is gone all summer! I would be in tears, too! Is he a camp counselor? How proud you must be! You're in for a quiet summer! Although, the trip home sure was pretty!
he looks so grown up! I hope his horizons get expanded and he gets some good life advice from his leaders and peers. you will be fine!
How quickly they grow...
Your son is a handsome young man and I know you are very proud of him! :0)
Love the pics!
Sniff. Mine is right behind yours. Gosh where has the time gone? I love that shot of the two of you together!
<><
I would love to see a before photo... with long hair!
Great photographs on your trip back. I love the mossy river one!
A handsome lad was under all that hair. They do grow up so fast. You can be very proud, but I know you are a bit sad too.
He's a cutie. It is SO hard as a Momma to let go. I am just in the beginning stages. My boy just turned 10 and the last year he has slowly pulled away. It has been a very difficult transition. I cannot imagine being in your shoes but it will not be long I am afraid. Hugs, Kim
I can so relate to how you are feeling right now. My son and his wife are coming up to their first wedding anniversary at the end of this month. Oh my, where did all that time go up until the day he got married. He is a handsome boy your son and he will always love his mum but times do change don't they?
Oh, how sad and happy for you all at one time! he is a cute boy. :) Where is he going to work? Good luck this summer. Enjoy the smaller food bill. :)
Love his side-smirk! I'm sure he'll call and keep in touch. Perhaps you can go out and visit him?
It's hard to see them grow so fast - I was saying to my neices the other day "weren't you little yesterday?"
An entire summer away! How exciting and scary! My oldest is going on 12, and I've been thinking a lot lately about the teen years. I'm terrified! I love the confidence and obvious pride you have in your son.
