So I bought pre-pasted & paintable wallpaper. ($12 Clearance roll.) I put it right over the top of yellow and orange glittered linoleum. It was in really bad condition. It was original to our home, which was built in 1932. I wanted the back-splash look like tarnished copper tiles. I painted some spots with two different colors of teal and then painted the entire thing with pounded copper rust-oleum paint. I like the way it looks! Then we bought a fabulous product, rust-oleum Countertop Coating paint. Black. We also added a 3 inch strip of wood on the back. I was scared to paint my countertop, but I was not a fan of yellowy white 1930's linoleum either. One warning: the paint stinks to high hell and we were probably high for a good 12 hours, so I suggest doing this before you go out of town or something. We finished it up with black caulk and I really like it. The paint is the same type of stuff people use to refinish their bathtubs but I will be extra careful anyway. So there you go...a cheap kitchen makeover!!!
